WHY THIS IS A NEW CONCEPT
> DIRECT INTERACTION WITH IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK
> SEE YOUR FACE ON THE TV SCREEN AND BE PART OF THE ACTION
> VISUALLY ENTERTAINING STYLE
> SEE / HEAR YOUR FRIENDS SING ( not location based ) OR BE THE START YOURSELF
> MASHUP OF VISUAL AND AUDIABLE STYLES , with historical references
> capable of relating to DIFFERENT SOCIAL / AGE GROUPS due to change in weekly theme
> web-calls are FREE = more participants
> FLOATATION of singing on-screen characters = LARGE # of participants at the same time
> better than TEXT SMS programs, which are often visually dull
> GROUP WORK possible between singing friends > leading to BEST IN TV'oke AWARD !
SHOW STRUCTURE
Each episode of TV’oke is composed of more
than one singable sections, in which the viewers
can participate by singing. Apart from that, the
participants can interact with the program by
voting upon the choice of the next song by sending
in SMS messages.
The number of songs played in an episode depends on
the length of a single broadcast. This number is
not to be read as full songs but yet singable
sections connected together by either straight
linking to one another or by transitional audio
sections called FILL-INS.
In the very beginning and end of the broadcast
there are also short intro and outro parts, during
which the selected best performances are shown
alongside with credits, instructions etc.

AUDIOVISUAL STYLE
The aesthetics of the show are based on the overarching concept of mash up. In short, both the audio and video production is based on mixing together elements of different genres, clashing different meanings together and creating sudden outbursts of visual tension.

WEBSITE ELEMENTS
The user is able to participate in the show trough
an interface on the show’s website. This
interface serves for multiple purposes, namely
practicing, recording the performance, viewing
other user’s performances, voting, support,
instructions as well as discussion forum and other
"external" parts yet to be defined.
When in practicing mode, the user is able to sing
along and practice without recording the
performance. If the singer is performing during the
show, there is clear and flashy indication when the
singer enters the show live. There are also plans
to implement a possibility to participate in the
show via video enabled mobile phones.
On the website it is possible to watch and vote for
other users’ performances. In the starting
view there should be top 5 lists for the latest and
best-voted performances. User can also search the
performances at least by username, song and genre.
In the discussion forum the users can communicate
with each other thus creating stronger sense of
community. There will be sections for f.a.q. and
technical support in the forum.
ANIMATION ENGINE
The animations forming the show are generated by a system that can algorithmically reorganize pre-made elements such as characters, backgrounds, generalized animation paths etc. This approach is justified both by the cut-and-paste aesthetics of the mash up and by the practical issues of producing a large amount of animated material.
Apart from this, the animation engine will include the video faces of the singers into the show. Furthermore, it is required that the visuals reflect the world of the currently played song section as well as the level of the on-screen singers’ performances.
TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION
In the following picture, the technical set-up required for running the TV’oke system is presented. The division of components into different networks – namely the TV’oke specific closed intranet, public Internet, GSM network and the television broadcast network – is shown with the grey boxes. The colour-coded arrows indicate the flow of different types of data between the components of the system. The whole system is based on Adobe Flash –related technologies ranging from animation to video delivery.
